Christmas Decor brightens up a new home in Hawkinsville, GA for a wounded Marine soldier

Collage

Through the Decorated Family program at Christmas Decor, Paulk Outdoors was able to assist the organization Homes For Our Troops this year.  They build new homes for soldiers that have been wounded in service.  The home of Marine Corporal James “Michael” Boucher was built specifically to meet his needs since he had lost both legs while on foot patrol in Afghanistan.  His new home is completely wheelchair accessible, from the kitchen to the bathroom to the front door and built specifically to help Corporal Boucher live a normal independent life.  Since the home would be presented to him in December, Homes For Our Troops thought it would be a perfect addition to his new home to be decorated by Christmas Decor.  The key ceremony was held on December 7th, and Paulk Outdoors was honored to be a part of this project for such a deserving veteran.

In true US Marine fashion, loss of limbs will not stop this veteran

Michael Boucher, along with his friend and fellow recipient of a new home Tony Mullis, have not let the injuries they obtained by an IED blast in Afghanistan stop them from continuing to live a normal life. They enjoy hunting and fishing and have now started a non-profit organization called Amputee Outdoors, which helps fellow severely injured veterans recover emotionally and physically through outdoor sporting activities.  Homes For Our Troops could not have picked two more deserving veterans than these two Marines.

Decorating a building rich with historical elegance

Christmas Decor stunning holiday displayScarlett’s Retreat Day Spa was constructed in 1826 when McDonough was first incorporated and originally sat where the Welcome Center currently is located. The building was moved to its current location in the 1920’s. It was originally named the Globe Hotel and the sign still hangs on the building. Scarlett’s Retreat is one of only three buildings left in Henry County that still have the original log foundation. It is a certified historic building and is the oldest original building in the city. It is also rumored to have served as a confederate hospital during the Civil War. Paulk Outdoors is proud to decorate this unique building with an elegant holiday display that the community looks forward to each year for over a decade.

Lawn maintenance changing with the seasons

Lawn Maintenance Company

Annually Paulk Outdoors, Inc. evaluates the average total time spent on each lawn maintenance visit, taking into account both dormant season visits and the heavy growing season, versus the amount being charged to the customer for their lawn maintenance.

Using Big Data to Create Efficient Lawn Maintenance Schedules.

Due to the heavy rains, we are finding that lawns are growing much faster and thicker than last year.  We have developed a more balanced lawn maintenance schedule to accommodate the needs of our customers during this heavy growing season.  With the balanced schedule our customers receive weekly visits during the heavy growing months (May, June, July, & August), bi-weekly visits during the slower months (April, September, October, & November), and monthly visits during the dormant months (December, January, February, & March), thus eliminating the standard bi-weekly maintenance schedule altogether.

This schedule has proven to be very beneficial for both the customer and the company, especially for our customers with extremely healthy and quick-growing grass. Efficient Lawn Maintenance scheduling benefits are:

  • You don’t pay for lawn maintenance when it isn’t needed.
  • Less fuel used by not cutting when the grass isn’t growing.
  • Avoid overgrown lawns during rainy periods.
  • Healthier lawns due to more frequent cuts during growing season.

What lawn maintenance schedule are you on?  Call today to receive a quote for our new balanced schedule and see the difference it makes in the beauty of your lawn.

It’s time for Spring aeration of your lawn. Are you ready?

Lawn aeration benefits for grass

Spring is here and that means your lawn will need some special attention.  Core aeration is the process of making thousands of small holes in the turf.  These holes allow fertilizer, water and air to reach the root zone quickly which results in new growth and increased root development.  The holes that are made by core aeration also open up the soil and helps reduce thatch build up and soil compaction, allowing your lawn to breathe and grow.

Is your lawn free to breath this Spring?  Call today to schedule a quote for aeration of your lawn.

NiteTime Decor takes care of outdoor lighting at a contemporary Atlanta fish house

Recently NiteTime Decor by Paulk Outdoors received a very special request by a unique Atlanta business.  We were approached by a new restaurant in the Midtown section of Atlanta to do some specialty outdoor lighting at their unique business structure.  With ten years experience behind him Jason Paulk, the owner of Paulk Outdoors, found the request to be challenging yet doable.  The end result is a stunningly lit structure that will add excitement to the Midtown Atlanta area.

Lure

Nature as a structure focal point

The restaurant has two large trees in the center of it that grow through the building.  The ceiling of the structure is a louver system that can be open during nice weather and closed during inclement weather.  Lure, a contemporary Atlanta fish house, wanted to light these two trees both inside and outside of the building.  Jason combined his knowledge of outdoor lighting and holiday lighting from NiteTime Decor and Christmas Decor to create a lighting display that fit the request and the structure.  If you have an area that you would like some specialty outdoor lighting added to contact our office to schedule a time for Jason to come and show you how we can show it off.

Is leaf removal important to the overall health of your lawn?

Grass growth slows or almost ceases during this time of year, but the plant will continue to create nutrients.  When leaves are left on the grass, this reduces the ability to photosynthesize by shading available light.  Leaf removal is most important with newly seeded lawns, since the young grass will die without light more quickly than the established turf.  Leaves that remain on seedlings can also increase rot conditions by creating a dark, damp climate that will smother out weaker plants.  Think of it like leaving a tarp on top of your lawn.  When you remove a tarp that has sat for months everything under it will be dead.

Paulk Outdoors Helps A Wish of Christmas Lights Come True in Coweta County

Christmas Lights Insatallation AtlantaOur office was contacted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation in November 2012 in regards to helping grant a special little boy’s wish that lived in Coweta County, GA. Henry loved Christmas and he loved the bright colorful lights that came along with Christmas. The wonderful people at Make-A-Wish wanted to try and make Henry’s Christmas just a little bit brighter this year so they contacted us. Jason Paulk, the owner, was happy to work closely with Henry’s family to design a special holiday display just for him. We think the display turned out lovely and Henry, along with his family, loved the lights. Holiday Decorations Atlanta

We were very heartbroken to find out in December that Henry was not able to experience Christmas morning one last time. Christmas Decor by Paulk Outdoors feels honored to be part of helping to make one of Henry’s last wishes come true.

Christmas Décor on display in McDonough square to be part of Tyler Perry Madea Christmas

The McDonough square has some additional traffic and excitement right now as Mr. Tyler Perry has chosen the historic McDonough square to be the set of his newest film Tyler Perry Madea Christmas.  Christmas Decor by Paulk Outdoors is excited to be a part of this film as we have decorated three businesses on the square that will be a part of the filming.
Christmas decorations for BusinessFilming has begun and will continue on through the end of this month, which means that McDonough residents get an additional month to enjoy the festive decorations.

Paulk Outdoors has a ten year presence in the McDonough square
Christmas Decor by Paulk Outdoors has decorated businesses on the square for the past ten years.  Some of our first customers are located on the square in McDonough along with new customers as well.  Our first office was actually located on the square back in 2002.  This historic site is beautiful year round, but it really is a sight to behold during the holiday season.   This must be the reason Tyler Perry wanted it to be his filming location.  We at Paulk Outdoors would like to think that we were a part of that deciding factor.

Businesses that stand out
One business that is hard to miss on the McDonough square is the Scarlett’s Retreat Day Spa & Boutique.  We started designing and decorating the holiday display at Scarlett’s Retreat in 2003, and the holiday display has continued to change and grow over the years.  This year we added even more lights along with our newest product the Tree of Lights.  We are looking forward to the release of  Tyler Perry Madea Christmas to see if these spectacular trees “made the cut”.  The movie is due to hit theaters Christmas 2013.

Simple ways to keep your property looking it’s best all year long

Winter is the best time of year to take care of those items that seem to get overlooked or pushed to the side during the busy Spring and Summer months.  Here is a list of services that we provide that can help in keeping your property in tip top shape.

  • Aerate your lawn before first freeze – A good aeration, along with a round of fertilization, will set the stage for bountiful Spring growth.
  • Leaf & debris removal – These objects can smother your grass, damage your turf, and leave your lawn more vulnerable to diseases.
  • Pruning trees, grasses, etc. – Pruning trees such as Crepe Myrtles… Though pruning does not help the health of the tree or plant, it does neaten the look.
  • Cleaning gutters and surfaces of roof – Cleaning out gutters and surfaces of the roof is a must! They both serve a key purpose on your home. Without the proper maintenance, you are prone to leaks in ceilings, termites, and mosquito and cockroach infestations.  Insects thrive in dark, damp, and cold areas.
  • Scalping – A close mowing that removes the heavy winter canopy and will allow quicker soil warming to hasten the spring transition. It also removes the excess layer of thatch.
  • Fescue over-seeding & Rye seeding – Over-seeding in the fall presents the least risk of planting failure for cool season grass. Rye is a cool season grass used as a temporary planting for over-seeding warm or cool season grasses. Rye grass creates an appealing “Green” look throughout the winter months. Fescue does thin out over time, so yearly over-seeding helps thicken the turf to achieve higher plant density.
  • Landscaping – We provide a wide variety of landscape services in the winter, such as install annual bed and appealing flowers, landscape & hardscape installation, planting, pinestraw, mulch, rock, and other bed toppers.
  • Routine Maintenance – Helps prevent an increasingly amount of leaves, sticks, and other debris from piling up on your lawn.
